To Not be Happy is to Not be Grateful

Happy people are grateful people. Happy people don’t complain. Do you ever complain?

Do you complain about your husband sitting on the couch at night watching too much TV? Be happy and grateful that he isn’t out of the house at the bars.

Do you complain about your all the things you have to do around the house? Be happy and grateful you have home. Many people are homeless.

Do you complain about the government? Be happy and grateful you live in a country where you can complain about the government thanks to the first amendment. I’ve lived in one where you can’t and it’s not a happy place!

Do you complain when you have to park so far out in the parking lot that you have to walk a long way to the mall. Be happy and grateful you have a car to park and that you are healthy enough to walk to the mall.

Do you complain having to pay taxes? Be happy and grateful you have a job that creates the opportunity for you to pay taxes.

Does you teenage daughter complain that she has to do the dishes? Be happy and grateful that she isn’t out on the streets.

When you are happy, you see all that you have instead of all you don’t have. Be happy! Don’t complain.

Is There Someone You Want to Fix or Change?

Do you want to make a little change in someone? Would they be better if you just fixed them a bit?

There is only one problem with wanting to change someone. You can’t change them. Only they can change them. If you changed them, they would not be them.

Did you ever hear this phrase? If it looks like a frog, and croaks like a frog, and leaps like a frog – it’s a frog. You saw a frog and heard the croak, but you thought you could change that frog into a prince. It only works that way in the movies. A frog doesn’t really change into a prince just because you wish it.

When you try to change or fix someone, you are saying them, “You are broken. There is something wrong with you.” No one wants to hear that, especially if they know you want them to change.

The best thing to do is to let him (or her, of course) know that you love them just the way they are. Accept who they are right now – not who he or she can be when they change. That would be a big change – right? That change would be in you, though. It would be your attitude that makes the change.

Oh…that’s the way it works, when you change, they will change too! First, you have to fix you.

Be happy instantly! Is that possible? It surely is by making a simple little change to yourself. Let’s say you’re depressed, sad, frustrated, or worried – and you want to be happy. You want to get out of that uncomfortable state of that emotion and to start feeling good. First, look at yourself and you’ll be amazed. Your shoulders are drooped; your head is hanging; you look like you feel! Time for a change.

To be happy, you need to look like you’re happy. When you put your body in that physical state, your mind will believe it and instantly you will feel happier. It’s almost like you fool yourself into being happy by putting your body there first. Okay – so be happy by 1) standing up straight 2) putting your shoulders back 3)pick your head up and be alert and 4) put a smile on your face! To be happy your must put your body in the state it would be if you were already happy and then the rest of you catches up very soon.

To be happy, you just have to look at research performed over the past few decades that suggests there is a benefit to producing a fake smile. According to many experts, smiling may not only be an outward manifestation of a happy feeling. Evidence points toward smiling as a cause of happy feelings.

It’s the exact opposite of how most people see the smile-happiness connection. Most people think you smile only when you are happy, however evidence shows you can smile first if you want to be happy.

In one study, subjects who watched themselves smile in a mirror saw an even more pronounced change in mood than those who smiled without the mirror. So to be happy, watch yourself be happy in a mirror. Now that’s a fun trick.

How to be happy. That’s what people ask me all the time…’How can I be happy?’ I know how to be happy, for sure, and I love to share it. The first thing you need to know about how to be happy is that you can start being happy any moment you choose once you know the secret-so get ready!

You might think you would have to take a class or read a book on how to be happy, but that’s not necessary. You simply have to decide you want to be happy. You have to decide to give up old habits of thinking that your problems are a result of anyone else. If you want to know how to be happy, you must know how to take responsibility for every single part of your life.

Next, you decide to keep your thoughts on happy things. You can think yourself happy. It’s absolutely the truth! Let me repeat that..you can think yourself happy. When you fill your mind with happy thoughts, you don’t have room for unhappy thoughts. If you fill your mind with ‘I can’, there is no room for ‘I can’t’.
